Introduction
To begin, I ought to focus on Francis Scott Fitzgerald because he was one of the most significant authors to come out of the United States in the 20th century. In addition, we must acknowledge the multifaceted talent he displayed in «The Great Gatsby,» his best novel when he described the society of the United States in the years following World War I. This one is a vital part of World Modernist Literature and it is recognised as the second-best book in the twentieth-century World Library. It should not come as a surprise given that Fitzgerald's writing style is distinctive, replete with a plethora of symbols, stylistic devices, and the like.
Main Text
After the end of World War I, the main character Jay Gatsby makes his way back into the story. As we can see, he is a respected veteran who has recently come into some money. He settles in «West Egg». And this exemplifies the fragility of the United States in the 1920s, when the economy was booming and society was thriving even though most of the money was earned in illegal ways, much like the structure of an egg. «The Great Gatsby» takes place against the backdrop of the illegal liquor trade known as bootlegging, in which quick fortunes could be made by evading the law (From Wonderland to Wasteland 397). For instance, just like in Dreiser's novel «Financier,» there are a lot of people who have aspirations of becoming millionaires quickly despite not coming from an aristocratic families. In the novel by Dreiser, Mr Baker had a similar experience. A «valley of ashes» is the name given to the region that can be found between West Egg and New York City and is home to George Wilson's gas station. (Gross, D., & Gross, M. 10). Ashes and crashes keep us aware of the time and atmosphere of total materialism that exists between West and East Eggs, leading us to believe that this region is currently in a state of decline. The antagonist, who is in love with a girl named Daisy, will stop at nothing in his pursuit of winning her affection. Unhappily, Jay does not solely own the heart that is depicted in the novel from its very beginning through to its conclusion. She has a striking appearance and is very beautiful. It would appear that she is everything to Jay, even though she was not a typical girl. Daisy Fay's house had both the largest banners and the largest lawns in the neighbourhood. (From F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, page 50)The author makes an effort to captivate our attention right from the start, with a focus on painting a picture of a time when there was widespread immorality, shallowness, and corruption. His assessment of it as «Jazz Age» is done through the use of irony. People who lived during this period were referred to as the «Lost Generation» all across the world. This term implies that these individuals had no purpose in life after the war. People, as far as I'm aware, tend to feel that their unlawful wealth will save them legally and that after that, they won't have to pay anything back. Having this knowledge, Gatsby would not participate in such wild parties under any circumstances. By doing so, he reiterates the statement that was made by a philosopher who said, «Aim entrusts the means.» This concept is refuted by the novel's ethos, which portrays it as immoral and doomed to failure. Soon, Jay will have an understanding of it. “Daisy?” «I beg you, please don't.» Her tone was dispassionate, but there was no longer any venom in it. (A Tale of the Great Gatsby) By F Scott Fitzgerald 88) When he sees «The Greenlight on Daisy's Dock,» he experiences an emotional transformation and realises that all of his efforts have been in vain up until this point. Because of this intention, I can't help but think that the author is trying to convey the emotional weight of the book through these specific pictures. Jay's intense longing for Daisy was the driving force behind his success, even though his method of obtaining Daisy was unethical. This is without a doubt his most outstanding achievement! This is a representation of «the American Dream» and how it can be put into practice. Despite this, it does not in any way make him happier. Not only for people in the United States of America but also people all over the rest of the world, I believe that having such a dream is the key to finding solutions to life's challenges and accomplishing one's highest aspirations. I feel obligated to mention that author's literary talent because it accurately predicted both the crisis of The Great Depression and the aftereffects on the economy of the United States. In the book about the «roaring 1920s,» the unprecedented levels of prosperity are what ultimately lead to the rise of organised crime. These ups cause even greater downs in the growth rate. It is not a failure of financial resources but mental capacity. When morality strays from the right path, it will inevitably bring about a crisis of the soul and, as a consequence of that, of the economy. This phrase serves as the novel's central logo. In addition to this, everything from the past that was forgotten appears in the present. The current state of the world crisis gives the impression that Fitzgerald was in error when he showed the main ideas in the novel. Through the antagonist, he predicts the result that will occur when individuals consume, as well as the reasons why such results will occur. The title of the book, «The Great Gatsby,» conveys not only the author's perspective but also the irony of the story. What makes him so great? Because he already has money or because he has found ways to get it? Does it truly earn him the right to be referred to as «The Great»?.For more interesting blog ideas visit our site Essay Writing Services.
